The Fireside Cook Book

Ever found a book that stood out to you because it was out of date? Well this book was definitely one of them. The Fireside Cook Book was published in 2008 but it’s such a fascinating cook book. Elias gave it to me as a gift and I just love it. At first I thought, it’s just another cook book. But it stands out to me more than other cook books.

The illustrations by Alice and Martin Provensen are brilliant, colorful, and fun. From the pictures below, you can see that the illustrators were experimental with each illustration. Photos are what make a cook book fun but these illustrations make up for it. When you flip through the pages, you feel like you’re holding a vintage cook book.

The other attribute that I enjoyed was that the author, James Beard, didn’t only focus on North American recipes. He guides you through Italy, India, and France. Having explored various countries, Beard does an amazing job of teaching you from his experiences. Also, the recipes are simple enough to read and short enough to not get overwhelmed.
